A very clear warm evening as we met by the quarry near the dam. Along the disused railway line to the place where the Devonport Leat terminates and drops down to go into the reservoir.
From here we followed the leat for a while stopping to observe the Space Station whizz overhead at the duly appointed time. We saw it disappear behind the clouds and then reappear moments later.
We followed the road for a short while and then along the leat again, turning down right to join the track running to Leather Tor Bridge past the old potato cave. Inevitably there are always some who just have to go inside!
We took our break by Leather Tor Bridge. Then out towards Raddick Lane before turning right along the fungus trail and back to Norsworthy Bridge. At this time of the year there were some to be seen including this ominous looking dark brown fungus on a dead tree trunk.
Next around the end of the reservoir and into the arboretum which is to be closed from 4th November until 31st January as a new easy-access footpath is built.
On around below Sheeps Tor, across the road, over the two dams and back to the car. A much longer walk than usual and on to The Rock.
A good turnout with Jon, John, Sue, Keith, David, Mike, Raz, Anne and Liz.
The moon didn't come up until late and was very bright on the drive home so I decided to experiment and take a night time shot on Roborourgh Down. For this I used the monopod I carry with my rucksac, a 30 second exposure and a bit of fiddling. This is the result and whilst the moon is a little over exposed I am very pleased with it. Lots of ideas now for more night time shots. Just need a bright moon and a clear sky. I can't understand why I haven't tried this before!
