Tuesday 19th September 2017 - From Bennett's Cross

A beautiful sunny morning. There were three walking groups competing for the small car park by Bennett's Cross.

We took the track up towards Birch Tor

Back past the dewpond to the Two Moors Way

The bee hives, only one here now. I assume the hives here put here whilst the heather was out.

Down to Headland Warren Farm...

...where the Alpaca lives

Then on to the track which leads to Challacombe for a coffee break as two other walking groups went past - I have never seen so many other groups on one of our walks!

We followed the footpath round to Soussons Farm....

....and then on to Soussons Down

Which way?

On to Vitifer Mine.

Wednesday Evening 13th September 2017 - Leedon Tor

From the car park up to Leedon Tor in the last light of the day.

Down to the little bridge over the railway track and up to the track by Foggintor

Plymouth in the distance.

Along the railway track, across the main road and then up to Hart Tor. Down and behind Black Tor Falls to cross over the viaduct. Back up tot he cars.

We arrived just after 10.00pm to find the Burrator Inn had closed so it was on the very friendly Rock. With Jon, Mike, Brenda and Stella.

Tuesday 12th September 2017 - Widecombe Fair

The annual walk to Widecombe Fair. Starting at Frith Bridge - looking down the valley to Challacombe.

 

Up to Grimspound and then...

...up again to Hameldown Tor.

Across to Hamel Down Cross.

Looking across to Honeybag Tor and Chinkwell Tor with Hay Tor in the far distance.

Tuesday 5th September 2017 - Higher White Tor

A very wet morning for our walk out to Higher White Tor and returning past the weir and Wistman's Wood

To Crockern Tor as another pulse of rain came past.

Gathering around the 'Parliament Rock'

On to Longaford Tor

Back up through a boggy bit to Wistmans Wood

Trying to read the inscription on the Buller Stone. 

It actually states:-
'By Permission of HRH the Prince of Wales Wentworth Buller on Sept 16th 1868 cut down a tree near this spot. It measured 9in in diameter and appeared to be about 163 years old'.

Lunch at the Two Bridges Hotel as the rain stopped and the sun came out.
