Thursday 2nd January - Around Burrator

At least it has stopped raining - well for now anyway. I parked by the dam so that I could walk round the reservoir.  Most people going round the reservoir just follow the road but for a little bit of extra effort there is much better off road walk.

Nice to see the dam overflowing - this doesn't happen often.  Most of the time the reservoir isn't full enough.

This was taken on the dam looking towards Leather Tor.  Good to see it full without the usually exposed 'rim' when the water level is down.

I took the footpath around the edge of the reservoir, through the trees and up the lane which leads up to Sheeps Tor.

Passing Maiden Tor on the way - looking over to Yennadon Down.

Up to the top of Sheeps Tor - looking across to Leather Tor and Sharpitor.

Then down to the track which leads down to Deancombe...

...with this view to Down Tor.

The abandoned farm of Deancombe.  I followed the track down to Norsworthy Bridge...

..with this view looking down the reservoir towards the dam.

At Norsworthy Bridge I took the footpath up to the leat past this area of 'old' storm damage.

Following the leat...

...to where it terminates and disappears down through this filter to a waterfall below before draining into the reservoir.

On to the railway track with this fine view across to Sheeps Tor before returning to the car.
