Tuesday 5th February Combshead Tor

We started at the lane which leads up to Sheeps Tor just behind the village of Sheepstor.

A light dusting of snow on the higher moor.

Past a floral tribute left on Maiden Tor - a favourite place for someone on a beautiful tor overlooking Burrator Reservoir

Across to Leather Tor and Sharpitor

Around the lower levels of Sheeps Tor with time for some to look at the Piskies Cave...

...and the view from the top with the church in Sheepstor just visible.

A light dusting of snow transforming the landscape for a few hours, leaving this magical winter wonderland for us to wonder at and walk across!

From Sheeps Tor with Gutter Tor below and Hen Tor further away...

...Combshead Tor in the opposite direction...

...and Sharpitor, Leather Tor and Great Mis Tor.

Along the top of Sheeps Tor and then across to Deancombe.

Looking back to Sheeps Tor.

Through Deancombe...

...and up again...

...to the top of Combshead Tor.

As we moved off towards Down Tor in the sunshine we could see the next wave of hail and sleet coming towards us.

Then down to Middleworth Tor and Norsworthy Bridge...

...and on the Royal Oak at Meavy with Rosemary, Terry, Amber, Colin, Brian, Bill, Charlie and Linda

Monday 6th August Lustleigh and around

This is Sharpitor (266) one of a line of tors on the ridge line above the north east of Lustleigh Cleave. A very large tor with many granite outcrops.

Next I went through the woods in search of Gradner Rocks coming across this solitary jogger.

Just before the rocks is this memorial bench with an outstanding view across to Yarner Wood and Trendlebere Down

Leaving this area I went on to the car park next to Haytor Rocks. At this time of the year this is understandably something of a 'honey pot'.

Bag Tor (268) is in the opposite direction and about a kilometre from the car park - there was no one else here!

Due east from the tor is Teignmouth....

...looking back to Haytor.

Back to the car and on to Ausewell Woods. This is private woodland but there were no keep out signs just a sign confirming no public right of way and another reminding visitors not to start any fires. There was easy access around the side of the gate.

A winding walk following the track down through the woods.

Ausewell Rocks (269) can just be seen through the undergrowth.

Further on through the woods to find Raven Rock (270). Only a small part of the tor can be seen from the track....

...there is more of the tor on the slope below.

The only way out was to go back the way I had come and I caught a glimpse of a deer moving ahead of me. It stopped and paused....

...before taking off again.

The final tor of the day was Scobitor (271). This is on private farmland but I was able to view it from Pudsham Down. The tower on top of the tor was built in 1868 and is a grade II listed building.
