Tuesday 16th August Rame Head

So off to Rame Head via the Torpoint ferry.  A dismal start to the day with drizzle and hill fog.

Into Mount Edgecumbe Country Park..

...up the tree-lined road....
and past Mount Edgcumbe House - no time to go visiting here today.

Up to the top of the hill where men were putting up a temporary fence for the firework displays in Plymouth Sound.

On to Maker Church - we thought the footpath went through the church yard but it turned out to be a dead end.

Next to Kingsand and Cawsand where we met Brian - by now the cloud was starting lift.

Past the workmen - getting ready early for Christmas by removing the chimney.
From here we followed the road to Rame past the coffin stone outside the church

To finally get a view to Whitsand Bay to the West...

...and on to Rame Head

Where we were given an intersting insight into the  National Coastwatch Instiution by one of the enthusiastic volunteers

No visit to the pub today.  A picnic overlooking Rame Head.

Here we saw the Dartmoor ponies and deer on Rame Head, with displays from a kestral, buzzard and cormorants

By now it was much brighter and we started our return journey along the coastal path - we could see over the sea to Bolt Tail by Hope Cove..

.. and out to the Eddystone Lighthouse 9 miles away

Past an abundant crop of sloe berries - probably about 2 months earlier than usual.

 Looking back at Rame Head...

...and towards the Breakwater in Plymouth Sound.

Then into Cawsand...

..and time for a well-earned ice cream

Then to Kingsand ....

...which sadly these days is mainly holiday homes and only few real people live here now.

Then back onto the coastal path for a while

Before returning to a Mount Edgecumbe Country park

With spectacular views across to Plymouth Hoe and Dartmoor in the distance

Walking today (all day that is) Terry, Rosemary, Charlie, Linda and Brian
