Wednesday 27th March Shelstone Tor

Another cold day but at least we had some sunshine.  We set off from just below Prewley Waterworks and made our way out to Shelstone Tor.

We took the easier slope up to Corn Ridge - avoiding the icy bits and the heavy frost made the going much firmer.

Around and down to the Tiger Marsh crash site...

 ...where on 25th December 1943  a B17 crashed killing 5 and injuring 3.
















Through a boggy bit and down to the track and we took a break by the 'points',  before continuing to Sourton Tors....

...where there was much debate about the lines in the granite and how they were formed - but no conclusions!

From here we returned to the cars and onwards to the Fox and Hounds for an excellent lunch and  discussion about the format of the walking programme for the next 6 months.

Wednesday 14th November Shelstone Tor

We walked directly into a surprisingly strong wind as we headed up from Sourton to Shelstone Tor. Then down around Meldon reservoir with a stop to admire the stars - a crystal clear night with no moon or light pollution and a fantastic view of the sky. Back up the very muddy track and on to the Fox and Hounds. With Mike, Stella, Mike and Liz

Wednesday 4th July Yes Tor

The weather presented us with a superb evening for a walk after all the rain.  Four of us set off from Meldon.

Next up to Fordsland Ledge before going on to High Willhays and then Yes Tor.

Back down the clitter free route and into the pub for 10:20.

Sunday 11th March High Dartmoor and Eleven Tors

 A foogy start.  Parking at Sourton and following the track up over the cycle path...

 ...to the wall corner and the first tor in view East Tor (76)

Over to the track and up to the 'Points' where one of the many Ten Tors teams on the moor today were having a discussion about where they were.

Further along the track Gren Tor (77) came into view...

...as the fog started to lift to let the sunshine through.

Across to Great Links Tor - but not going there today.

On to Hunt Tor (78)

With Green Tor and Higher Dunna Goat in the distance.

And on to Green Tor (79) with Fur Tor in the distance...

Down to the remains of Bleak House - difficult to believe that people once lived here

Steng-a-Tor (83) -  the immediate area all round this is very wet.

Dramatically sculptured by the wind.

Next along to Corn Ridge and Branscombe's Loaf  (84) - very, very wet along here too.

The hang gliders were out on the steep slope down to Shelstone Tor - trying to get a thermal to take them upto the clouds.  Apparently one person  got as far as Penzance from here once!
