Tuesday 22nd October White Tor

A willd, windy and wet morning as we set off from the little quarry on Smeardon Down taking this track up.

Lower Godsworthy Farm  and the moor above blanked out by the low cloud.

Looking across to Bouters Tor.

We took the track down towards Cuddliptown Town past these trees growing out of the top of the wall...

 ...I am sure the person planting the little saplings in this wall would never have imagined they would get this big!
















Down and back up again to get back on the moor.

An incredibly heavy shower at this point and the sheep ran towards the wall for shelter!  I have never seen them do that before but this time, unusually for sheep, they were being sensible!

We passed Lower White Tor - barely visible in the cloud and...

...on to the top of White Tor.  We reckoned the wind was about force 6 gusting to force 8.

Down to the wall corner crossing Colly Brook and...

...it was just a bit clearer at the lower level.

I think these cattle had been sheltering behind the wall but they were most interested as we went past!

We didn't go to Roos Tor as planned but followed the wall around to the footpath which goes below  Sharp Tor.

On to Great Combe Tor...

...down past the disused swimming pool and....

...over the Colly Brook again this time using the little bridge.

On to the Peter Tavy Inn for lunch.  With Terry and Rosemary.

Wednesday 7th August Hare Tor

Another perfect day for walking on the moor and a good group assembled at Lane End.  Ger Tor was our first destination.

Up to the leat.

A lady sitting on the tor finds an empty flare case, talks about it and picks it up - what about all those warning signs telling you not to do that.

The view across to Hare Tor, Sharp Tor and Great Links Tor.

We loop around to Tavy Cleave Tors...

...and Jon of course climbs up to the top!

Then a slightly indirect route across to Hare Tor where we met Peter, a very nice young man on holiday from the Netherlands who offered us all a chocolate biscuit. We stopped for a while to enjoy the fantastic views in every direction.

Back to Ger Tor.

Eventually down to Sharp Tor past the cairn and a view back to Hare Tor.

Gently down to the Willsworthy firing range.

Past the rifle range and...

...back to the leat.

With a heron nearby after the abundance of fish in the leat and these two ducklings.

On to the Mary Tavy Inn which served  excellent food.

Wednesday 8th May Bel Tor Corner

Lots of rain overnight and the forecast was for more rain but it was bright and breezy at the start as we set off across the moor...

...and down to Ponsworthy.

Joining the Two Moors Way following the West Webburn River to Jordan.

Next across the open moor to East Shallowford past this wild orchid on the way..

Once through West Shallowford we headed up to Corndon Down stopping for a while to watch a helicopter buzzing in the distance just above the tree tops

Eventually the helicopter came below and past us - in the photo it looks like a small toy but it was a real one.

Along Corndon Ridge and on to...

....Corndon Tor - looking back...

...and the same helicopeter was ahead of us again above the East Dart Valley with Mel Tor on the left.

Sharp Tor to our right...

...as we returned to the cars.

And as we reached the cars the promised rain started - thankfully two and a half hours late!  With Anne.
