Wednesday 21st August Great Links Tor

Perfect walking weather.  From the Fox and Hounds and up to and along the usual track...

 ...to the points where the trucks would change direction.

On along the track and then up to Gren Tor - not often we come here - with Great Nodden below.

Upwards again to Hunt Tor and then across to...

...Great Links Tor

Looking back to Hunt Tor in the middle distance with Yes Tor on the left and High Willhays on the right - now which one is the highest?

Over to Dick's Well which apparently is this square hole in the ground. A small reservoir with a leat feeding in from the left.

On to Arms Tor...

...and around to the other side....

...before going down...

...to the ford.

To the Fox and Hounds for lunch which wasn't very busy but it seemed to take forever for our baguettes to arrive. Although, they were very good when they eventually did! If you want to know what's in the breakfast baguette - well it's breakfast - simple really.

Wednesday 5th June 20th Anniversary Walk Great Links Tor

On this Wednesday twenty years ago the core members of this group formed the Wednesday Walkers. Over time the group has expanded and this anniversary evening was to be special.

We set off from the Fox and Hounds and took the track along the side of Great Nodden. First of all group photo.

Branching off the track to find a suitable place for a......

...picnic!

Sparkling wine flowed and everyone brought lots of goodies to share.

The sparkly candles on the cake were lit.

 

Then after a while we set off to the top of Great Links Tor.

 

This was a much larger group than normal and split into several smaller groups, all approaching the top from a different direction.

Nigel and Ian climbed to the top.

Some stayed at the bottom.

Soon it was time to go down again.

As the sun set over Cornwall.

Back to the Fox and Hounds where, for some, the beer was well below standard.

With Ian, Sue, Colin, Pete, Anne, Jan, Charles, Cath, Mike, Keith, Helen, Linda, Nigel, Stella, Viv and Jon.

Tuesday 14th August Sourton

So with the forecast of heavy rain we tailored the walk to suit and what did we get? A lovely sunny morning just perfect for a picnic!

Walk and talk and up the hill we went.

Past Sourton Tors.

 With Yes Tor ahead...

...and Meldon Reservoir to our left...

...we turned towards Great Nodden. 

On Great Nodden with Great Links Tor behind.

Then we were on our way down again...

...to the Granite Way...

...with this very old railway building beside the cycle path.

And before we knew it we were back at Sourton church..

 ...with the sundial above the door and many of the gravestones showing similar carved faces like the one below.

















With Harry, Rosemary, Terry, Roger, Carol and Charlie.  Bud and Brian were waiting at the end of the walk.

Wednesday 11th April Great Links Tor

At last we can walk in daylight again on a Wednesday evening!  Just four of us from the Fox and Hounds and out on to the moor from Nodden Gate.  A glorious bright evening as the sun was getting lower in the sky.

...and darkness begins to descend.

To the top of Great Links Tor, as it was finally getting dark, to see the International Space Station pass across the sky and out to sea twelve miles from Plymouth, the Eddystone lighthouse was flashing out its warning beam.  We came down near Dick's Well crossing members of the Dartmoor Rescue Group on our return to Nodden Gate.
