Charles found this spider hole on a tree and then we found a lot more. A spider lives inside the hole - the outside of which has been covered in his sticky spider's web stuff. He then waits inside for an unsuspecting insect to walk past, get stuck and then WHAM BAM WALLOP he comes out, gets it, takes it into his den, kills it and eats it!!
You push and I'll lift and we might get this upright again!
Next to the edge of an Iorn Age fort Castle Field where part of the outer ditch is still visible.
Off through the ferns to find Heron's Tor (279). This one isn't in the book so it is a bonus tor...
...through more ferns and down to...
...the river tavy...
Where in the spirit of the Olympics a stone bouncing competition took place - Charles reckoned he could get 109 bounces.....
We followed the river from Double Waters through the woods to the large chimney and found lots more spider holes in the brickwork - you can't see it in the photo but there was a BIG spider inside.
Onwards to Grenofen and up the steep rough track and back to the cars. Then to the Rock for the usual refreshment.
With John, Jon, Charles and Anne
