...and the whole moor looked just like this, which ever way you turned. In fact we could have been anywhere on Dartmoor and it would have been the same.
From Princetown we took the track towards Nuns Cross Farm
Then we came upon South Hessary Tor but it could have been any Tor.
After a while we turned left to go down through Whiteworks. We were meant to follow the path across Strane River. This is normally a trickle of a stream but not today. Still we missed the track and got across to the other side and then tried to find the track. Today it was lost in the flooded water on the moor. We went this way and then that way through the boggy bits until eventually we found the track on the other side. Just before this we had a man down - Terry in found a big hole but no damage done and off we went again looking for a wall, but it wasn't there. Then past a Cist.
Eventually we came to the Dartmoor Way and found this arrow - even this was pointing the wrong way.
As we headed back towards Princetown we could hear the noise of a man at work on his tractor. The smell told us he was muck-spreading.
Then just before Princetown the remains of a very old gate - apparantly this was the level crossing gate from Dousland which was relocated here when the railway closed about 60 years ago.
Eventually, we arrived at the Prince of Wales for a well-earned lunch. Leaving the pub we realised it could have been much worse - it was raining hard now. Why do we do it - go out in these conditions? Good question but it is a very simple answer - we enjoyed it, the company, the sense of adventure and because we can.
Walking today Charlie, Terry, Rosemary, Bud and Brian.
